“Shinden”, also the name of this area, means the farmland reclaimed at the beginning of the Edo Period (1603 - 1868). It is said that the first residents of this village were 27 farmers who had moved for cultivation from the neighboring village called Yamada (now in Suita City). In order to grow rice in this hilly Shinden area, they made many storage reservoirs to secure water for agriculture. Though the reservoirs have been converted to the sites of parks and other public facilities, their names remain as the names of the places.
